Tales from the Mothership

Sometimes, you get no publications for months, years even. Then like buses, they all come along at once. Today, I have a new story out in Wyldblood 19 called ‘ Trouble at Clackhammer’.

“There’s something off about Uncle Arsenic.”

Yes, its about who you think it’s about, whoever that might be (could be one of several to be honest).

And, of course, any resemblance to any persons living or dead is purely coincidental.

I workshopped this story with the writing group Northwrite, which I’ve been part of for several years. I’d been having trouble with the middle and the ending, and the feedback I got helped me think about how best to bring it all together.

Writing is a solitary endeavour but having friends with the same interests to talk about the craft, or give honest feedback is a great boon. You don’t have to take every piece of feedback and change your work but usually, especially with this group, if there’s a consensus on a particular point that’s niggling you too but you’re not sure why, then it’s best to take notice.

At the end of the day, though, any changes you make should be ones you know will make the story better.
